D75 Science Explorers

District 75 STEAM Foundation funds new Explorers program

The D75 STEAM Foundation is kicking off a new science fair initiative that will virtually pair students with a real-life scientist.

The D75 STEAM Explorers grant will fund up to $150 in supplies for a science project in any aspect of biology, chemistry, physics or math. Students will meet on Zoom to discuss projects and ideas with a scientist in the field. At the end of their study they will have the opportunity to present a poster on their project and share what they learned.

All current D75 students from kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 15 for projects that will be done in March and April. Access the application here.

Students will receive $150 for science materials, a poster featuring their scientific project, and a one-on-one mentoring experience with an expert in their chosen field.

The student project will be done at home, but should be executed and completed by the Explorer with guidance from parents, the D75 STEAM Foundation and volunteer scientists. The program is designed to help provide guidance for ALL students, regardless of parental expertise.

Parents who happen to be experts in science fields are encouraged to volunteer to help other students in Zoom meetings. Volunteer time will be limited to a 30-minute Zoom session to provide feedback on the project and a short meeting at the end of the project so the student can practice the presentation.

Parents and students can find project ideas on the Project Finder from Science Buddies by clicking on “Get Ideas.”
