Workers make progress on Carl Sandburg stage project

Construction crews are wrapping up the major structural work at the addition to Carl Sandburg Middle School this month and preparing for the next phase of the project, which includes interior finishing. The project, which will cost approximately $7 million, will include a handicapped accessible stage, dressing rooms, and storage areas. It began in March 2025 and should be completed in the spring of 2026. The project remains on schedule and within budget.

During lunch and passing periods, he’ll challenge students to games and award candy if they win. Sometimes to earn a prize, the student will have to tell him something they learned that day. It’s all a part of how Carl Sandburg’s new School Resource Officer builds trust with students.

D75 Board earns second governance recognition honor

The Board was one of 42 Illinois school districts honored with the School Board Governance Recognition. It recognizes the Board’s effective governance behaviors and its commitment toward obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively govern the district.

D75 Board adjusts school calendar to match high school changes

Mundelein elementary and middle school students will begin school after Labor Day in the next two school years to match calendar changes at Mundelein High School. The District 75 School Board approved the changes Tuesday night. The Mundelein High School District 120 School Board adjusted its calendar on August 12 in an effort to allow for construction at the high school to proceed as effectively as possible.

CSMS honors Mark Pilut with room dedication

When Mark Pilut retired in 2024 after serving as principal of Carl Sandburg Middle School for 20 years, he said he wouldn’t mind if changes are made once he’s gone. One change was made this spring with the renaming of the school’s multi-purpose room, also known as the MPR. In May, the school dedicated the room in his name and MPR now stands for the “Mark Pilut Room.”

CSMS Band Receives Top Honor at SuperState Festival

On Monday afternoon, just three days after Carl Sandburg Middle School’s 8th Grade Symphonic Band performed at the University of Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival, Band Director Moulee Gupta called the students out of their classes. She said she wanted to get a group photo.

CSMS Symphonic Band qualifies for SuperState

Several years ago, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Carl Sandburg students were forced to choose their first musical instruments in the school parking lot. Despite those humble beginnings, these current eighth-grade students have accomplished something not done at the school in the past 25 years: The 8th Grade Symphonic Band will perform at the University of Illinois Bands’ 2025 SuperState Concert Band Festival in May.

March Madness “brackets” originally referred to the groupings of teams in the NCAA basketball tournament. But eventually, people began making brackets for their favorite movies, songs or books. Now, brackets have crossed over into the world of mathematics, as small teams of Carl Sandburg sixth-graders compete in their own tournament. Let’s just call it “March Mathness.”
